Huppert Furnace
Circa 1960s | Object # 0537.0001
This furnace was produced by the K.H. Huppert Co. In 1960 it was known as the "world's largest manufacturer of dental furnaces" according to a contemporary Chicago newspaper article.
This electric furnace is designed for reaching high temperatures, in this case up to 1400°C.
A sticker placed by the owner reads, “Converted to a 3B muffle.” The muffle is a strong outer casing that protects the heating chamber. The muffle furnace itself is made of a heat-resistant material such as firebrick or ceramic, that withstands the intense heat without compromising the integrity of the chamber.
