According to the product’s 1978 patent:

The etched surface of the tooth, the inside surface of the facing material, and the exposed surface of the facing material, including the joint between the facing material and the enamel of the tooth, are coated with a dental adhesive that may be selectively cured in place, such as by ultra-violet activation.

Facings bonded to the enamel of abutment teeth may be employed for support of pontics without necessitating preparation of abutment teeth with bridgework support crowns. Connected facings may also be employed for periodontic splinting.
