This microscope belonged to Dr. Willoughby Dayton Miller, a world-class visionary in the fields of dental biology and dental treatments in the late 1800s. An advanced microscope was essential for his understanding of the impact of bacteria in dental decay. Dr. Miller's microscope and other materials were donated to the historical collection of the School of Dentistry by his widow in 1908.
